Communications High School

Career Academies

Mission Statement
Communications High School, a personalized academy with a career focus, provides a rigorous theme-based curriculum in conjunction with community, industry and higher education partnerships. Monmouth County students acquire knowledge, skills and professional ethics while utilizing the latest technology related to their communication field.

Background
The Monmouth County Vocational School District (MCVSD) prepares students for higher education and the evolving workplace. MCVSD administers Communications High School (CHS), one of five career academies in Monmouth County. As a highly competitive specialized school, CHS selects 80 students each year from over 400 student applicants enrolled in approximately 50 public and 10 private schools across the county.

CHS provides a college preparatory honors program with a communications focus that serves the community by providing exemplary learning experiences in areas such as New Media, Journalism and Publishing, Commercial Art, and TV/Radio Broadcasting. Every course is offered at the honors level. Students must enroll and successfully complete 40 credits of course work per year to graduate.

Opened in 2000, this year CHS proudly welcomes our fourteenth class. Throughout the past decade, the CHS community has worked to foster a collaborative work environment for students, parents, faculty members, and administrators. In 2010 CHS opened the Design Academy a full time two year program for students entering their junior year allowing select students to broaden their art focus and pursue the honors level program already part of CHS. Going forward, CHS will actively recruit students from around the county, provide a rigorous curriculum of both academic and theme related courses, and graduate young men and women prepared to meet the rigors of college and beyond.

Communications High School exemplifies learning, community, and excellence in Monmouth County, New Jersey.
